Rules of Play in WFFL Leagues

General Rules Governing All WFFL Leagues

Updated 5/26/14

WFFL Leagues

First and foremost all WFFL leagues are exclusive to women. No men will be accepted to any of our leagues. If a manager joins and is suspected to be a male then at the Commissioners discretion that manager may be removed from the league.

WFFL Leagues must have a minimum of 6 teams signed up prior to the scheduled draft day to move forward. Leagues that do not meet this requirement will be cancelled for the current season.

All current WFFL leagues are based on Head to Head matchups. If 24 hours prior to the draft a particular league has an uneven number of teams the league may be changed to a total points league without notice.

WFFL Membership

To join WFFL leagues you must first be a member of the WFFL Community at TeamSnap. New prospective members should email info@wffl.us to request an invitation.

Upon joining the WFFL and filling out your roster profile at teamSnap you are now eligible to join our leagues. Review our league schedule for the season, decide which leagues you would like to participate in and then request an invitation to those leagues via info@wffl.us

Applicants will be given spots in re-draft leagues on a first come first served basis, subject to availability.

Keeper and Dynasty Leagues give first priority to returning managers. After returnees teams will be signed up on a first come first served basis.

Member Responsibilities

All league members are expected to be active throughout the entire regular season and into the playoffs until such time as they are eliminated from contention. If you do not set your line-ups on succesive weeks or stop all participation in league activity you may be subject to release from the league and repeated incidents could cause you to be barred from the NFL. Any teams that are determined to have been abandoned by their owners will be either taken over by another manager for the remainder of the season or their lineups will be set to play best player available by the system or manually by the Commisioner. This is to ensure league integrity right up through the playoffs. If you suspect a team in your league has been abandoned you should notify your commissioner immediately.
If you suspect a manager is cheating, colluding or is in any way violating the leagues guidelines of fair play and good sportsmanship you should notify your commissioner immediately.

Sportsmanship & Conduct

The Women's Fantasy Football League is founded on fair and compassionate competition. Our managers are very competative but also support their fellow managers that are less experienced or new to the league.
Good natured trash talk and ribbing is an important part of the fantasy experience and is encouraged. However, vulgarity, cruelty, and harrassment will not be tolerated and could lead to penalties up to and including being asked to leave the league or in extreme cases banishment from the WFFL. Get to know your league mates, engage in smack talk, league chat and discussion boards. Interactivity increases the enjoyment of all league members.
The WFFL does not allow: cheating, collusion between members, unsportsmanlike conduct and harrassment of any kind. Anyone participating in such conduct will be removed from the league solely at the discretion of the Commissioner.
Complaints about league members, conduct, league rules, the draft or any other league issue should be sent to the commisioner at info@wffl.us The WFFL Commisioner has the right and responsibility to address all issues in a fair and impartial way.

WFFL Dynasty League Rules

WFFL Dynasty League Rules and Information - Updated 5/26/14
(check league settings for rosters, scoring and other info.)

What is a Dynasty League?

A dynasty style fantasy football league is a league where you can retain most or all of your players from year to year. This creates an environment which is very different from that of a redraft league. By enabling team owners to keep players and build a team over time, there is a much stronger sense of team ownership, and success is achieved with a greater sense of satisfaction.
Mistakes or successes in a dynasty league can affect the fortunes of a franchise for years to come, just like in the NFL. A dynasty league also facilitates trades, including trading of draft picks , and it encourages a deeper roster pool, so young ‘project’ players can be identified and groomed.

What’s the difference between a Dynasty League and a Keeper League?

A keeper league is similar to a dynasty league, but involves keeping a smaller portion of your players. Basically, a keeper league allows for a few players to be retained. A dynasty league allows for most or all players to be retained.
A dynasty league is much like any other league. An initial draft is held with all of the available NFL players, just like a regular fantasy league. But there are some things to think about which are specifically relevant to creating a dynasty league.
The basic idea is to allow each owner to keep most if not all players on their roster from season to season if they wish. Just remember, the more players each team keeps from season to season, the greater the challenge and sense of ownership.
To clarify how future league drafts will be handled. The subsequent drafts are rookie & free agents drafts only which happen after the NFL draft is complete. Teams can then select from the new rookies in the league, as well as from any free agents currently un-drafted. Our league will lock down the waiver wire at the conclusion of the NFL regular season to avoid playoff teams from changing their regular roster over the off season. Keepers must be selected approximately one week prior to our draft date each season. To make room on your roster for draft picks you must first drop the players you no longer wish to keep.
Trades – Trading is without question one of the best parts of playing in a dynasty or keeper league. Some teams are rebuilding or building for the future, and are willing to trade away an older veteran who may only have a couple seasons left in exchange for a promising young rookie. Check your specific league to see if trading future draft picks is allowed. Other teams are looking to win this season, and will give up some future potential in order to solidify their chances now.
Plus there is always the fine art of trading for some gems in the rough who may not shine for a season or two. Or trading away a fantasy stud at the peak of his career, and watching him crash down to earth while on someone else’s roster.
Our league will require all trades be approved by the commissioner. Either way, a dynasty or heavy keeper league will stimulate far more trading activity than a redraft league, and the entire league will benefit from the added strategy and fun.

It can't be overstated how important it is to ensure the league coaches are dedicated to the league for the long haul. Being a dynasty league, teams can sometimes find themselves in a hole which may take several seasons to overcome. Owners must be committed to seeing their teams through the good times and bad. Make sure the coaches in the league are as reliable as possible.

Womens Keeper League Rules

The Women's Keeper League 1 and the Rowdy Girls Keeper League the rules are as follows.
You can keep up to 3 players. You don't have to keep any of your prior rosters players but you can keep up to 3. Beginning in 2014 there will no longer be a limit on how long you can keep an individual player.
So the way the keepers affect your draft is one week before our draft, you need to have your keeper selections made within the league using the site's keeper tools. If you have a problem setting them you will need to be sure to get them into me and get my confirmation of receipt back. During the week before our draft is scheduled, when I have all your keepers, I go to the web site and look up each players average draft position to see what round drafts have them going in. Whatever round that is, that is the pick you will be giving up to keep your player. In my earlier example if Brady is going 21st overall then I'd probably be satisfied that I'd be giving up my 3rd round pick, No Matter What my actual position in the third round is. Whether on draft day I happen to fall in the beginning, middle or end of the third round is irrelevant when it comes to keepers. If you decide to keep a player whose average draft position is in the third round, you give up your third round pick for that player. Sometimes it works for you and sometimes it works against you. Only you know what that player is worth to you. How much risk do you want to take? Is Brady worth a 3rd round pick to me whether I'm going first or last? We'll see. The rule is that if you are keeping two players that fall in the same round, you lose that rounds pick and your next rounds pick for those two players.

Any Other WFFL Keeper leagues, including the, Women's Advanced League the rules are as follows.
You can keep up to 5 players. You don't have to keep any of your prior rosters players but you can keep up to 5. There are no restrictions on the length of a players contract. You can keep any player as long as you want, as long as the player is one of your keepers.
For new Managers coming in to a Keeper League
The draft is basically a worst to first snake draft. Therefore if you are taking over an existing team then you will be placed in the draft based on that teams finish from the prior year. You will also be able to select keepers based on the prior years roster of the team you are taking over.
If a new team is being added to the league, you will not have a roster and therefore no way to select keepers in your first year. In that case the draft order will be a worst to first snake draft with new managers in the first positions if they are not taking over an existing team. You can post your keepers or email them, either way. I'll post on the message board a few hours before the draft who the keepers are and what draft spots they are going in.
So good luck everybody and have a fun season. Also remember the more active you are on the message boards, the more fun you'll have during the season by interacting with your new friends and competitors. We are all here to share football news, rumors, a little mild smack talk, and to chat, joke and support each other.
Changes for 2014 and beyond:
Starting in 2014 the draft order will be worst record to first with new teams getting preferential placement to make up for having no top players as keepers, but if you are taking over a team you will be placed according to that teams prior years record.

Their will no longer be limits on how long you can keep a player.

WFFL Women's Dynasty Leagues

The Women's Fantasy Football Leagues offer two Dynasty Leagues.

First we have the WFFL Women's Dynasty League, which is hosted on Yahoo. It is a 10 team H2H league with a 20 man roster, 10 of which can be kept from one year to the next. I guess you could think of it as a 50% Dynasty League. It was established in 2013 and has 3 open teams for 2014.

The second league is new this year and is our most ambitious league to date. It is hosted at MFL and has a 20 man roster + 1 coach and 2 IR. It is a high scoring PPR league with multiple bonuses.  The league will consist of 4 Divisions with 10 teams per division.  Each division will draft from their own player pool of all NFL players. The playoffs will begin in week 14 with 8 teams.  It should be a lot of fun and our most exciting league yet.  It is a pure Dynasty League so you can keep as many of your players as you want from one year to the next.

For more information or to request an invitation to one of these leagues, contact me at: info.wffl.us

The Draft Masters League

The WFFL Draft Masters League, sometimes referred to as a "best ball" league, is new this year for the 2014 season. It is unlike any other league we've ever had.  Have you ever wondered what your season would have been like if you stuck to all the players you originally drafted?  Are you really as good a drafter as you think. The best in your league?  This league answers that question. You pick your players with a live online draft and from then on the computer does all the work, picking your lineup each week based on who of the available players on your roster scores the most points. No weekly lineups to set, no waiver wire pickups or player trades.  You draft and go.  Find out if you really are a skilled drafter. This league is also great for women that want to play but don't have the time to set weekly line-ups. Set up your team and sit back and watch what happens. I think it'll be a lot of fun and a great test of your drafting ability.

To join this or any of our leagues, email me at info@wffl.us and request an invitation.

Keeper Leagues of the WFFL

The Women's Fantasy Football Leagues has a number of Keeper Leagues where you can maintain 3-5 players on your roster from one year to the next. The first two have been around for 3 and 4 years respectively: The Rowdy Girls Keeper League and The Women's Keeper League. They are both 10 team leagues with most managers returning each year so openings are rare but do occasionally happen. The same is true of The Women's Gridiron League, a keeper league run by one of our affiliate members. The final keeper league is the Women's Advanced League. It is a PPR league that allows for up to 5 keepers, and has some more advanced scoring rules.  It was established in 2013 and will accomadate up to 12 teams. Currently we have 5 openings for new managers in 2014.  In the past we have added additional leagues if the demand is great enough to support it.

Women's Fantasy Football Leagues - PPR Redraft

Women's Fantasy Football – PPR Redraft League

The PPR redraft laid will be hosted at my fantasy leagues.com and It is a new league this year for the 2014 season. It is for intermediate to advanced fantasy football managers. There's a 12 team league with a single point per reception for running back, wide receivers, and tight ends. As this is a redraft league it will be filled on a first-come first-served basis beginning on June 1st.  The draft will be held in August a specific time to be released later it will be a snake draft and draft order will be set by random selection.

Many people say PPR  leagues are the way of the future and are the most equitable way for points to be scored, making all offensive skill positions relatively equal. I'm not sure but would like to try it out because more people seem to be asking for it. As always I'm sure will be a good time.

To join this league send a request to info@wffl.us

Clarification of how to register for the WFFL

Welcome to the Women's Fantasy Football Leagues.

To get started in our leagues/community all members must take 4 simple steps.

1. Email info@wffl.us for an invitation to register to be part of the Women's Fantasy Football Leagues Community at Team-Snap.

2. Use this invite to register at Team-Snap. Please be sure to got to the Roster tab, click on the edit button next to your name and fill out the updated profile page, remembering to click save at the bottom when you are done. This puts you on the mailing list so you don't miss anything. It allows me a way to manage our membership and track our leagues. Finally, it provides you access to the WFFL calendar, consolidated message board and shared files, photo's, charts and more. What it does not do, is register you for any specific leagues.

3. Review the 2014 schedule of leagues being offered (preliminary league slate for 2014 attached) and decide what leagues you'd like to join, pending availability, and send an email to me at info@wffl.us requesting invitations to any NEW leagues you wish to join. Invitations to leagues you played in last season will automatically be sent to you for renewal on or about June 1st (or as soon as all providers are on line for the 2014 season).

4. Respond to the invitations to the leagues you want to join and set up your teams. Reminders for draft times will automatically be be sent to you via Team-Snap and will appear on the Team-Snap Calendar as well as on the provider's (Yahoo, ESPN, etc.) page for that particular league.

You can register for the WFFL at any time.  Our league sign-ups begin June 1st or as soon as the particular league's hosting site is open for the new FF season. Our drafts are typically run during the month of August. Specific draft dates and times will be added to the WFFL Calendar once the league set-ups are finalized and the drafts are scheduled. Notification emails and reminders will be sent to you from all leagues you sign up for.

Please feel free to contact me at any time with questions or comments. I will send out regular updates as necessary throughout the year.

Thanks for your interest and support.

The Women's Fantasy Football League is created

The WFFL Story

And on the seventh day I embraced football

I started playing Fantasy Football in 2006. I found I didn't care much for the so called mixed leagues at the time too much testosterone and poor sportsmanship.  In 2007 I tried to find Women's leagues without much success. The few there were hard to find and filled up quickly due to there scarcity. I thought that there really should be a central hub where women could find leagues where they could play with other women. I began running my own female exclusive leagues in 2007 and the response was great. The two most common types of feedback were that the ladies were made to feel uncomfortable or stupid in the men's / mixed leagues and that women were unable to learn how to play FF in these leagues due to harsh criticism and the every man for themselves mentality. So in 2009 I formally created the WFFL as a place to showcase women exclusive leagues with what I call "Compassionate Competition".

We all help the Newbies learn the ropes and support each other with a positive community experience while still maintaining a competitive spirit. Good-natured ribbing and trash talk is encouraged but poor sportsmanship, rude behavior, collusion and cheating are not acceptable and can lead to banishment from our leagues. The last couple of years there have been about 50 or so women participating in 10-12 leagues each season, about half of which return every year. This season for 2014 I am running about a dozen leagues myself and we currently have 4 "affiliate leagues".

Affiliate Leagues

Two of our affiliate leagues are from women within our group that run their own ladies only leagues and two are original WFFL leagues that I have handed over to another member of the WFFL to run. Bottom line our "Affiliates Leagues" are leagues that are promoted and supported on the WFFL site, that are run by other Commissioners or groups.  There ar two basic requirements to be listed as an affiliate league. Leagues must be open Exclusively to Women, no mixed leagues allowed, and they must adhere to the same basic standards of fair play and good sportsmanship that the WFFL follows. Any leagues that do not follow these guidelines are removed from our site.

The Bottom Line

No offense to the guys but I just wanted to create a space for women FF fans and one that would have a different environment of support and empowerment that many male dominated leagues do not offer. The WFFL is a woman's community where we can talk football without ridicule, ask questions freely and make new friends.

I'm just passionate about our group. I have taken a major step in trying to grow our community in 2014 by reaching out to women through social media. Our site and our leagues, at this time, remain free. I hope to make the WFFL self supporting in the future through PayPal donations at our site http://wffl.us

Where you can find the WFFL

The WFFL is on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Blogger, We have a Facebook Group, Google Hangouts (not very active yet), SportsYapper and TeamSnap. For links to all our venues go to http://www.wffl.us/contact.html

God only knows where We'll be in the coming years. "We" are a one woman operation so I am trying to grow exponentially this year, doing as much in the pre-season as possible. Thoughts for 2015 if things go well this year, hosting or co-hosting a podcast, and publishing some articles and guides on WordPress. My biggest obstacles are of course time and money.

Thanks for your interest and stay in touch.  info@wffl.us
