Wow, what a great way to start the season.

Both teams played great (especially on offense). Both Brees and Rodgers were on fire and several Wide Receivers and a few Running Backs had monster games. Randal Cobb even got in a great, record tying (108 yards) special teams play on a kick return. The standouts: Robert Meacham, Darren Sproles, Devery Henderson and Marques Colston (suspected broken collarbone out 4-6 weeks), are all Saints are Wide outs. For the Packers we had  Randall Cobb (rookie wide out and kick returner for Green Bay),Greg Jenings and Jordy Nelson, GB Wide outs.  Packers Running Back James Starks put on a show, not so much for Saints Running back Mark Ingram.

It was a great game to watch and if you missed it you might want to check for it on-demand. I'm sure you will be able to find lots of highlights on line. You can also check out our new  video search feature in the League Office section of our web site. I can only imagine how many NFL Coaches are going to be changing their strategies to account for what they see in this games including the play by rookies. In fantasy if you check out the Yahoo Fantasy Football transactions you'll see plenty of ads for both Saints and Packer players.  It will be very interesting to see if they can keep up the pace and level of play displayed in this season opener.

So get a comfortable seat and some good snacks, Sunday is coming.

Hi Ladies,

Just a quick note to let you know I haven't deserted you. It's just that between the increased requests for information, not complaining mind you, all the new manager emails, and things to do with the WFFL Community I'm getting a litle overwhelmed. Insted of a 6-12 turn around time it is becoming 24-48 hours. I apologize for that and am doing the best I can. I prety much tok the weekend off to do maintenance and reorganazation of my computer files. All my disks were overloaded so I went out and bought anouther TB (my second). I have a lot of stuff. Media Girl, that's me. You want to know my secret on how I got through the lockout ... itunes NFL Game Highlights/Follow Your Team New England Patriots 2008, 2009, 2010 Seasons. :-) anyway off topic. I just wanted you to know I'm juggling as fast as I can and please hang in their with me. Thanks. J

Aaarrrgghh!!
Who's on first and why is Chris Johnson at home? With all the wheelin and dealin going on I feel totally lost this year. I'm sure, well kinda, that by draft time I'll have it all figured out, you know, when the dust clears, but right now I can't keep track of who's playing for who. Of course all this movement can dramatically affect not only that players fantasy value but the value of the skill position players around him. How will the pick up of Reggie Bush affect the dolphins RB's and WR's? What about their changes at QB? Will Bush be more productive or less because of this new team around him and under this coach? It's all about fantasy points right? Of course you can't forget the big 10 million dolar two year contract either. Will he play hard to get an extension or will he just take it easy, take his money and try to leave the league without to much more damage? A lot of this stuff is out of your control but you can't help but wonder.
My beloved Patriots, talk about some wild and crazy moves. Haynesworth?? Chad?? How long can they folow "The Patriots Way" of towing the line. Team first, no grandstanding, in saying anything but the party line. Oh, and Albert no laying down for a nap on the field. I don't care how big and bad you think you are, my money is on Bill, he will freakin kill you. He can decapitate just by yelling at a player. I'd like him to turn over a new leaf but I'll be surprised if he makes it through training camp. Now Chad has slightly better odds but I'm not sure if he can at least pretend to be semi humble and team oriented for an entire season. Bill realy doesn't like it when players talk to the media or show boat. Chad will try I have no doubt but .... the Pats are also colecting even more runing backs than usual. They may be trying to set a record this year. It is no longer looks like running back by committee, more like runing back by platoon. BJGE, Woodhead, Faulk, Morris, Revis, Vereen and they have even more wide recievers. Not to mention four quarterbacks. I can't imagine how they'll get down to a final roster and still field a defense. I trust in Bill but you can see my point. That is just one team. How's a girl to keep up with it all!
Well, I guess we do the best we can, do our research, maybe a few mock drafts and go with our best instincts. This year I am happier than ever that I scheduled all our drafts for the end of August. I usually do it to avoid pre-season injuries and to give people a chance to at least see players once or twice. This year I just want to know who's playing with who.

Who will the lockout have hurt the most?

There are a number of ways this lockout will have affected the season once all is said and done. We won't really know until the dust settles but I do have a few thoughts.

NFL Football: I believe the overall product on the field will suffer and this could be one of the worst seasons of play we have seen in a long time. New players will not have time to learn the playbook and develop timing with team mates. Rookies will be lost and only the best will be able to offer any significant contribution, especially during the first half of the season.

NFL Players: Players will not be in "football shape" and will have little time to get there. Team workouts may have helped some but mostly on the offensive side of the ball. Defensively they were worth little as there is no contact. I do believe there will be a lot of injuries and hamstrings will be pulled far and wide.

NFL Coaches: Who's on first, and which way did they go? Better stock up on No-Doze. First you have three days to sign your players, then the tornado of free agency starts for real. Who is unsigned? How much money can we spend? How much do we have to spend with the new cap rules? Quick lets get to training camp so we can see what we have.  Not much time to evaluate the players, who to cut and who to keep .... how smart   is your coach? How good of a decision maker?  Coaches on the hot seat are in a real tough spot. It's a bad year to save your job. It's also a tough year for new coaches and QB's to prove themselves.

NFL Teams: The solid teams will of course remain solid. Those with stable schemes, coaches, QB's, etc. The Steelers, Patriots, Colts, etc. Who might struggle? It will be interesting to see if the lack of team workouts affects the Packers as they were the only team to not have any. The 49'ers are learning a new offence this year. The Bengals look to be going with their rookie QB as their starter as well as a number of other teams. Teams that have new coaches and or coordinators include: The 49'ers, Browns, Broncos, Cowboys, Panthers, Raiders and Titans. Change is hard, especially in a shortened season.

Sports Analysts: Thank God they'll finally have something to talk about.

Fans: Let Fantasy Football, football pools, water cooler chatter, message boards, Twitter and the party planning begin!  We have been counting the days and suffering every time someone says "The lockout will be over by ...... " Yeah, right.

One more thing owners. Pay back all those salaries you held back from your administrative, clerical and plant staff. Now please! They didn't ask for any of this. Also hire back any laid off employees.

Happy days are (almost) here again!

So word on the street is that the NFL players may be voting on the agreement Monday. Then everybody drops the lawsuits, the courts sign off, the union re-certifies, the players come back, free agency and training camps can begin. Sheesh! And we are still a long way from having any clue as to where the free agents will go and who will make final roster cuts. But it's coming! Time to sign up for your Fantasy Football Leagues, get out your NFL gear and make sure the team sticker on your car is still legible. Also it's never too early to start planing draft parties, game get together s and of course the all important Super Bowl Party.  It's a long season so plan well and party often. After all, football is a team sport.
